What Arizona allows on each window

Arizona’s rules are the same for cars, SUVs, trucks and vans. The numbers are the share of light that gets through: a lower number is a darker window.

A white Toyota Camry with each window tinted as Arizona law allows
  1. Windshield

A tinted strip across the very top only

Its lower edge must be at least 29 inches above the driver’s seat. Never red or amber.

  2. Front side windows

More than 33% of light through

Film and glass together, with a small tolerance. No more than 35% reflective.

  3. Rear side windows

    Any shade

As dark as you like, no more than 35% reflective.

  4. Back window

    Any shade

As long as the car has outside mirrors on both sides.

  • Headlights: Arizona allows only clear material in front of headlights, so we don’t tint them.
  • Medical exemptions exist for people who need darker glass — your doctor and the state handle that, not the shop.
  • Not sure what your factory glass already blocks? We measure it before we pick a shade for the front windows.

Questions

Questions about tint law in Arizona

See all our FAQs
How dark can I tint my windows in Arizona?

In Arizona, the front side windows must let in at least 33% of light, and the rear side windows and back window can take any shade. We check the law for your car before we start.

What tint shades can I choose from?

From darkest to lightest: 5%, 15%, 20%, 35%, 50% and 70%. Darker shades give more privacy, lighter ones keep a factory look, and we make sure the front windows stay legal.

When can I roll my windows down after tinting?

Keep them up for 3 to 5 days while the film dries, and wait a week before cleaning the inside of the glass. Use a soft cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner.

How much does car window tinting cost?

Car window tinting usually costs from $200 to $800. The price depends on your vehicle and the film you choose.

How long does car window tinting take?

Most cars take 2 to 4 hours. Taking off old tint first can add an hour or two.

Is ceramic tint worth it?

Yes, if heat matters to you. Ceramic film keeps more heat out without having to look darker: Union Ceramic IR blocks up to 87% of infrared heat, against 75% for Union Carbon IR.
